'Omniscience' Screenplay (2023)

"Omniscience" is a short drama film, created as my final A-Level project. The screenplay explores the disquieting premise of a man's gradual realisation that his entire life is a simulated reality, playing out as a television show. This project represents months of dedicated work, involving multiple drafts and significant plot refinement.

The film begins with John experiencing a severe headache and memory loss from the previous day. His flatmate, Lucie, exhibits nervous behaviour and tries to dismiss his concerns. John starts noticing unfamiliar objects in his home, such as a new phone and a lamp, which Lucie attempts to explain away unconvincingly.

The tension escalates when John tries to leave for a walk, and Lucie inexplicably attempts to stop him. After he departs, Lucie is heard speaking into an earpiece, expressing frustration about John's unusual conduct. John later meets his friend Arthur, who also behaves strangely. Upon returning to the flat, John discovers a script that mirrors his exact conversation with Lucie.

The truth is revealed as John confronts Lucie and Arthur, whose real names are Sarah and James, actors in a television show. John hears a laugh track and a censor beep, confirming his horrifying reality. The film culminates with John spotting a camera, and in a moment of blank despair, he picks it up and looks directly into the lens, tears streaming down his face as he comprehends the lie of his existence.
